[LinP3] Special Notice Do you really care about the LivingInThePhilippines Group,

Dear friends and members,

Do you really want and care about this list? Show us now. Take the
action I ask below.

If you want this list to continue. we have near 12,00O members but
posting is down. New members are only 10 per day. They were up to 20.

Do you want me to continue my labor here, after 9 years. If you do, I
ask you to invite three friends today.

Unless membership picks up and posting too from the fantastic other
posters, unless they poost Ron McCarthy and many other contributors,
you get my blog only here.

Post from you asking questions already answered on
http://www.livingin thephilippines. com will have to wait until we get
time.

There is an invite a friend(s) You can put in several at once. at
http://www.livingin thephilippines. com not far down the page. I will
be able to tell how many times it is used over the next few days.
Please invite from it so I will know you did and your posts will be
approved first it I keep approving post.

I will know how many you invite and hope you invite more than one at
a time. It does not happen I will work on my websites, I have
several including wwww.cebuheartofthp hilippines. com, finish writing
my books, take vacation like other folks and miss you all while I
kick back.

I need to see who and how many care enough for this free list and our
labor to help more people all over the world, many who have not yet
been exposed to the Philippines. As China mushrooms, the vacation
place for English speaking and Western people will come here, an
oasis for them near China for relaxation and night life that is
affordable, for warm an friendly English speaking people. I say get
here buy you condo while still affordable!

With that information I get from your hits on the "invite a friend
link, I can make a decision as to my personal work habits and the
disposition of the List

Thank you for your help and allowing me to consult with you, get your
input. Than most to those who want the list to continue as is.

Respectfully,
Don

Re Thomas; Trying to survive in Manila on US $669.00 a month would be
next to impossible. Compound that with the age, 80, the health conditions,
and he is looking for nothing but a serious struggle. At one time almost
anything was possible here, but not now. I believe he would even have a
serious problem living in one of the out lying provinces on that amount.
Wayne
I live in Quezon City

-------------------------------

Thank you for the obvious answer from a man who lives in Manila. Yes, I too
would find it hard. Some Filipino would feel rich with that kind of money.

What if he says, "I am coming anyway. I don't want to live in Hawaii any
more. Some of us old stubborn dudes don't listen to others. And there are
times when convention wisdom does not work.

We could advise him to make friends in the local Filipino community. If he
has none in Hawaii that tells he has a problem. To live in Hawaii and not
have a Filipino friend would be strange, certainly if you are interested in
living here. I suspect he has a friend or two, for his sake, hope so. He
sounds so alone. Is he lonely? Who knows?

There is a possibility he could live with a Filipino family, rent from them,
He would be all set up, food and attention every thing he needed, *it* all
fell in place. And some guys are lucky. Maybe is his time for some luck.

Thank you for your comments!

Don,

I agree with you about this one. If he were to be practical and do what's
the best for him, he'd definitely stay home!

On the other hand; he's 80 already. He must have enough to get here and
find a place to stay...maybe with one of his chat-mates. Who knows how much
time he has left in this life whether he comes here or stays home? He may
just find happiness here for a little while and who would deny that of him?

Reminds me of a Filipino friend I knew in Cebu City a few years ago. He and
his wife returned to their home after having lived a long and productive
life in California. He had retired and was nearly 90 when we used to have
chats in the shade every afternoon. He once said, "I came home to die, but
for the life of me I don't know why anyone else would want to live here!"
Perhaps your poster is also looking for a place to rest before moving on...

Ron

[LinP3] Re: Learning Tagalog

I think the best way to learn tagalog, if you are really
serious is to study it like the school children.

Like in America, American have subject from grade one
to high school about English and grammar.

In the Philippines, they have subject on Pilipino or tagalog
from grade one to high school.

Not disrespecting the intellect of anyone, learn it from
grade one and to high school with the help or your wife.

Lesson from grade schooler are easy and you could progress
faster until reach high school.

What you need is a connection to a good school, so you could
buy the books that they used in Pilipino or tagalog.

This kind of learning will make you master, the language in
no time.

Do they really impose a 100% tax on imported items such as new
cars? Seems that the effect of that policy is to severely limit
consumer choices for residents. I can see it (sort of) if the
government is imposing such a large tax in order to protect Filipino
industry but I don't believe there is a local automobile industry to
protect in the Philippines, is there? This is one government policy
that I would like to see changed since I believe that it has a
negative impact on the country and it's citizens. If Philippine
industries can't compete, then have them raise their quality until
they can compete. Seems to me that such high, protective tariffs
(import taxes) hinder Philippine business more than help. John.

Dear friends, members,

I get and answer these, like the post below, every day, try to answer all.

One of several today I share with you.

I am 80 years old and want to retire in Manila. I receive medical aid from
the VA for my heart, (not service connected,) Atenolol and Warfarin and a
monthly check up for blood levels. I get Social Security of $669 per month
which I presume is adequate for where I plan to live. I know I get a tourist
visa when I enter the country with a round trip ticket, and have been told
of the extensions up to two years. By that time I should know if I want to
stay. The biggest problem of the moment is that I am still not sure I can
receive the same aid at the VA in Manila as I get here in Hawaii. Thanks for
any help you can give me.

=====================

Hello Everyone,

I have been married to a filipina for 16 years
and still do not know how to speak Tagalog. A few days ago I downloaded
a program on how to learn Tagalog and it seems to be a good program.
Have any of you expats learned Tagalog? Was it is easy or hard? Have
any of you used a program and if so which one? By the way, we have
lived in the states for all 16 years and my wife speaks excellent
english thats why I never learned, but we are moving to the P.I.
within the next 10 months so I need to learn.

Salamat,
Ray Buhr

Can someone tell me where I might buy a dog in Cebu. Need one for
security.

Looking at the dogs on the walkover near Robinsons some are decidedly
a rip off. One guy had what he called a "Jack Russel". First black and
brown one I have ever seen with long legs! But the Rotwielers looked
fairly genuine.
